The Basics of Dog Obedience Training

Dog training for obedience is identical as for any animals.First you tell your pup what you would like them to do Once the dog has performed what you intended, then you give him a reward. You immediately repeat the task a few times & then keep reviewing it frequently up until the dog’s reaction to your command is essentially instinctive.

However, training a dog to be obedient is not quite as effortless as it seems.

To begin with, communicating with a dog is limited. Occasionally you are able to demonstrate the steps you want him to perform. At times you will need to force or work with him. In a number of instances, Come or Sit as an example, you might give them the appropriate command every time you see that they are about to perform these actions in any case and at that time you praise them.

In time, they will link the cause & the effect.

Whenever you are giving a command to your dog, be brief, distinct, patient, calm, & completely clear when repeating your commands. Most importantly, be consistent with your commands. If your dog simply sits there cocking their ears with a lost look then, it’s apparent that you’re just not getting the message over and that you may need to make improvements to how you communicate with him. Start over again trying to make your command clearer, whilst intensifying the will power behind it.

One word commands are certainly advisable in the beginning. Later you might use the key word in a sentence, pronouncing it gradually and not as forceful. When ever the dog has understood your meaning and carried out the task effectively, and has been rewarded, redo the task again at once in order to fix it in their memory. Three or 4 goes are plenty for the first training because you don’t want to bore them with it.

You should continue the command a few times the next day, & from there on at the start of any training time until he has grasped it. You’ll see that your dog really has fun with showing off what they have learned to do.

Several conditions are necessary for successful dog obedience training. 1. Try to schedule the training at similar times 2. Keep the lessons in the same location 3. With new lessons keep it as secluded as practical & free from disturbances such as passing cars, playing children and other animals.

The training method from your dog’s perspective, consists of listening attentively & looking at you as you say a command, understanding that each sound & gesture that you make signifies a thing that he is being tasked to perform.

As soon as this routine has been formed in his mind, then there’s absolutely no limit to what he can be taught.

Please do not try to school a sleepy dog, or an ill one, or one that’s just eaten. Your dog is going to simply get distressed, snappy, & his lasting image of your time together will constantly be a distressing one. You will experience the very same end results if you’re nervous, short-tempered, or in any form of negative mental state. Give him your patience, attention, time and love and they will be your best friends for life.
