Who we are
BestWebDev is an independent web development and software business based in the United Kingdom, operated by Chris Best. We run this website (bestwebdev.uk) and an application called Command Center (app.bestwebdev.uk). For data protection purposes we are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us at chris@bestwebdev.uk.
The short version
- This website doesn't use advertising, tracking cookies or analytics, and loads its fonts from our own server.
- If you contact us, we use your details only to reply to you.
- If you use Command Center and choose to connect Google Analytics or Google Search Console, we read your data with read-only access, only to show it to you inside the app. We don't sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
- You can disconnect Google at any time and ask us to delete your data.
1. This website
We don't use cookies or analytics on this website, and we don't load third-party scripts or fonts. Like any web server, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, pages requested and time) for security and reliability.
2. The contact form and email
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive the details you provide:
- Your name and email address
- Your company name, if you give it
- What you want to build, the problem you describe, your budget range and any message
We use this only to respond to your enquiry and, if you go ahead, to discuss and deliver your project. We don't sell or share it for marketing and we won't add you to a mailing list. Form submissions are sent by our own web server straight to our email inbox. If you'd rather not use the form, email chris@bestwebdev.uk directly. We keep enquiry emails only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any resulting project, then delete them.
3. Command Center accounts
If you create a Command Center account we store your email address, a securely hashed password and the content and settings you add (for example sites, keywords, drafts and schedules). Credentials you add for other services, such as a WordPress API key, are stored encrypted. We use this information only to provide Command Center to you.
4. Google user data
Command Center can connect to your Google account so you can see your Search Console and Analytics figures next to your other site information. Connecting is optional, and you choose which site to connect. Command Center asks for these read-only permissions, and nothing else:
- Google Search Console —
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters.readonly. Lets Command Center read search performance for the property you connect: clicks, impressions, average position, and the top search queries and pages. - Google Analytics —
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/analytics.readonly. Lets Command Center read reporting data for the GA4 property you connect: traffic summaries, traffic channels and top pages.
How we use it
We use this data only to provide the features you see in Command Center: showing your search and traffic performance, and using your real search queries to suggest keywords and prioritise content for your site. We never write to, change or delete anything in your Google accounts.
How we store and protect it
- When you connect Google, Google gives Command Center a refresh token. We store it encrypted in our database and use it only on our server to request your data. It is never shown in the browser.
- Analytics and Search Console figures are requested from Google when you view them. Search Console figures (summary, top queries and pages) may also be saved as a snapshot alongside a site audit so you can see how things looked at that point. Snapshots stay in your account until you delete the audit or site, or ask us to delete your data.
- Connections to Command Center are encrypted with HTTPS.
Sharing
We don't sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI or machine-learning models. We don't allow people to read it except where you ask us for support, where it's needed for security or to meet a legal obligation, or where it has been aggregated and anonymised. We use service providers to run Command Center (such as hosting). Where a feature you use needs keyword text to be sent to another service, for example a keyword research or AI provider, only the text needed for that feature is sent.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Command Center's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Revoking Google access
You can stop Command Center accessing your Google data at any time, in either of these ways:
- In Command Center, use Disconnect on the site's Google Analytics or Search Console connection. This deletes the stored token from our systems.
- In your Google Account, go to myaccount.google.com/permissions, choose Command Center and select Remove access. This revokes the token at Google.
Once access is removed, Command Center can no longer retrieve your Google data.
Deleting your data
To have your Google-derived data, or your whole Command Center account, deleted, email chris@bestwebdev.uk from the address on your account. We'll confirm when it's done, normally within one month. Removing access in Google (above) does not by itself delete snapshots already saved in your account, so please ask us if you want those removed too.
5. Other services we use
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — host this website and Command Center and its database.
- Google — when you choose to connect Analytics or Search Console.
- Content and research providers — Command Center can send text you ask it to process (for example for AI-assisted drafting or keyword research) to the AI or research provider that feature uses.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or restrict how we use it. Email chris@bestwebdev.uk and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and the date above. If a change affects Google user data, we'll tell Command Center users before it takes effect.
8. Contact
